“BASS RITUALIST”
SunMa (András Koroknay) is a Transylvania-born Hungarian sound artist, producer, and bassist, known for crafting genre-defying sonic collages
that pulse with heavy basslines. Based in Budapest yet regularly moving between Berlin and India, his work bridges contemplative soundscapes
with driving, dancefloor energy—equally at home in meditative listening spaces or clubs.
Primarily a solo artist performing with modular synths and bass, SunMa has also appeared as a live bassist with prominent acts such as Àbáse and
Jamaican reggae stars Lutan Fyah and Micah Shemaiah, while occasionally inviting fellow musicians to expand his own live shows. His debut at
Berlin’s Badehaus in 2022 was followed by performances on leading stages across Europe, including House of Music Budapest with
Mansur Brown, A38 Ship, Jazz Dock in Prague, TIFF Romania, Kino Konepaja in Helsinki, and more.
In 2024, SunMa released Helianthus on his co-founded label {sem•sem}, a spiritual jazz–infused record that quickly sold out on vinyl and
cemented his reputation as a boundary-pushing voice in contemporary improvised music. Later that year, he unveiled the live audiovisual project
Live at AQB (watch here https://youtu.be/xT1w6Ll2wRE ),
an hour-long modular-synth improvisation recorded at Art Quarter Budapest in collaboration with Finnish artist
Ari-Pekka Leinonen and his experimental loudspeaker sculpture ele-gi-eli.
Among his recent works is Dub Vanguard, a single that blends his formative dub influences with evocative childhood memories from the fading
days of the Iron Curtain. Recorded on tape in Neukölln, Berlin at Tim Tabellion’s studio with longtime collaborators Àbáse (keys) and
Ziggy Zeitgeist (drums).
Now, SunMa is preparing the release of his next full-length album fekete tenger. Its first single, Little Isle, introduces an emotional journey
through isolation and self-expression. Fusing a hypnotic, club-ready beat with nostalgic textures, it marks his first full dive into modular synthesis
and sets the tone for a body of work that is both intimate and expansive.
Through his ever-evolving sound, SunMa continues to explore the intersection of contemplation and movement, offering music that resonates as
much on the dancefloor as it does in reflective solitude.

「ベース・リチュアリスト」こと
SunMa（András Koroknay）は、トランシルヴァニア生まれのハンガリー人サウンドアーティスト、プロデューサー、そしてベーシスト。
重厚なベースラインが脈打つ、ジャンルを超越したサウンドコラージュを生み出すことで知られています。ブダペストを拠点に、ベルリンとインドを定期的に行き来しながら、瞑想的なサウンドスケープ
と、力強いダンスフロアのエネルギーを繋ぐ作品は、瞑想的なリスニングスペースにもクラブにも違和感なく溶け込みます。
モジュラーシンセとベースを用いたソロパフォーマンスを主に行うSunMaは、Àbáseやジャマイカのレゲエスター、Lutan Fyah、Micah Shemaiahといった著名アーティストのライブベーシストとしても活躍し
、時折、他のミュージシャンを招いて自身のライブショーを盛り上げることもあります。 2022年にベルリンのBadehausでデビューを果たした後、ヨーロッパ各地の主要ステージでパフォーマンスを披露し、
Mansur Brownとの共演ではHouse of Music Budapest、A38 Ship、プラハのJazz Dock、ルーマニアのTIFF、ヘルシンキのKino Konepajaなどが挙げられる。
2024年には、自身が共同設立したレーベル{sem•sem}からHelianthusをリリース。スピリチュアルなジャズを注入したこのレコードはすぐに完売し、
現代即興音楽の境界を押し広げる声としての彼の評判を確固たるものにした。同年後半には、フィンランド人アーティストAri- Pekka Leinonenと彼の実験的なスピーカー彫刻ele-gi-eliと共同で、ブダペストのアートクォーターで録音された1時間のモジュラーシンセ即興演奏であるライブオーディオビジュアルプロジェクト
Live at AQB（こちらで視聴可能 https://youtu.be/xT1w6Ll2wRE ）を発表した。近年の作品の一つであるシングル「Dub Vanguard」は、彼が幼少期に受けたダブの影響と、薄れゆく鉄のカーテンの時代の記憶を彷彿とさせる作品です。ベルリン・ノイケルンにあるTim Tabellionのスタジオで、長年のコラボレーターであるÀbáse（キーボード）とZiggy Zeitgeist（ドラム）と共に録音されました。現在、SunMaは次のフルアルバム「fekete tenger」のリリースに向けて準備を進めています。ファーストシングル「Little Isle」は、孤独と自己表現を通した感情の旅へと誘います。ヒプノティックでクラブ向きのビートとノスタルジックなテクスチャを融合させたこの曲は、彼が初めてモジュラーシンセシスに本格的に取り組んだ作品であり、親密でありながら広がりのある作品群の基調を決定づけています。常に進化を続けるサウンドを通して、SunMaは瞑想と動きの交差点を探求し続け、ダンスフロアでも内省的な孤独の中でも同じように響く音楽を提供しています。
